Local law enforcement provides tips to be safe during Black Friday shopping

Florida officials including Boca police put warnings out over social media for anyone going Black Friday shopping.

They are warning people to park in well-lit areas and take all valuables inside. Black Friday is one of the busiest days for car thieves.

4 of 28 modern-era Pro Football Hall Of Fame semifinalists once starred on high school gridirons in Palm Beach County

The modern-era player finalists are determined by a vote of the NFL Hall's Selection Committee, a process that began with 122 nominees. That group of nominees was trimmed to 26 semifinalists in November.

In addition to the modern-era finalists will be senior finalist Cliff Branch, contributor finalist Art McNally and coach finalist Dick Vermeil.

Palm Beach County Animal Shelter At Capacity, Adoptions Urged

Palm Beach County Animal Control says the agency's main shelter is over capacity.

The number of animals in that West Palm Beach facility has risen to over 350 and more than 30 animals were surrendered by their owners over a two-day span.

Residents are being urged to foster or adopt a pet.

All animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and all pets come with a free bag of food.

Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall along the Treasure Coast or Palm Beach County Wednesday.

A hurricane warning has been issued from Boca Raton to the Flagler/Volusia County Line. A hurricane watch has been issued from the Flagler/Volusia County Line to Ponte Vedra Beach. A tropical storm watch has been issued from Altamaha Sound to the Savannah River.

Some Florida minimum wage workers stack the coins, while others lose out

The first minimum wage increase to $10 per hour in 2021 benefited approximately 600,000 workers in Florida, according to Florida Policy Institute’s CEO Sadaf Knight. When the $15 minimum wage is fully in effect in 2026, Knight said it’s going to benefit more than one in four Floridians. “It benefits workers in industries like retail and food service,” she explained. “Industries that are heavily concentrated in Florida, and especially here in Central Florida.” But industries like hospitality, retail and food services tend to see more cases of wage theft.
